COMMOM PROFICIENCY TEST (CPT) is the preliminary stage for entering CA course. The CPT (Common Proficiency Test) is an objective type examination of 4 hours duration divided into 2 sessions of 2 hours each. Each session consists of two subjects with a total marks of 100 each. The examination is a multiple choice examination with negative marking. To qualify at the CPT, a student has to obtain a total of 50% marks in all the papers together.
Admission in Common Proficiency Test (CPT) : A Student passed his/her Senior secondary (XII) from any stream (Science/ Commerce/ Humanities) can opt for CA Course. He/ She has to first enroll himself/herself at CA Institute at respective CA Regional branch office (See details of your nearest Branch at : ICAI Website)
A student who has passed higher qualifications other than 12th class such as B.Com, M.Com, LL.B., ICWA, CS, MBA is also, in the first instance has to appear and pass CPT Examination to join the Chartered Accountancy Course.
CPT is an objective type test to be held twice in a year (June / December) with paper pencil mode (OMR). This will reduce long waiting for entry to the chartered accountancy education and training.
